Race to Zero Dialogue: Soil as a climate solution - getting to scale

Description

Recent technical, policy and financial innovations have brought soil health - reflected by soil carbon accrual and long considered too difficult to implement - up the agenda as a critical solution for addressing climate change through a combined effect of cost-efficient carbon sequestration on a large scale, accompanied by other critical elements of climate resilience, like farmer prosperity, reduced risk of flood and drought, replenishment of fresh water sources, reduction of fire hazards, improved quality of food, reduction in synthetic or toxic inputs, and decreased impacts on biodiversity. The potential is clear: it is estimated that improved agricultural and land use practices could sequester more than 10% of anthropogenic carbon emissions over 25 years, while enhancing agricultural productivity for farmers and nature,. Realizing this potential requires all stakeholder groups to play their part in building a shared vision, developing mechanisms for public and private investment, and – perhaps most importantly – ensuring the benefits are shared with farmers and land managers who have arguably played a lesser role in the problem solving than their actual potential.

This session brings together farmers, political and business leaders, and experts to build a multi-stakeholder action plan to scale soil carbon as a climate solution: join the discussion to make sure we get it right.
